Pessary Use for the Management of Prolapse and Urinary Incontinence Symptoms
Join us for a high-level overview of the conservative treatment approach of using intra-vaginal pessaries to manage the symptoms of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. WHO pessaries are suitable for, WHAT they can treat, WHEN they are recommended, HOW they are used, and WHY we may want to incorporate them into our offerings or refer to another healthcare practitioner who offers this service, will be addressed.
Description
Cara McDougall completed her master’s degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Saskatchewan in 2013 and has worked in private practice since. She has been working exclusively in the area of pelvic health for over a decade, and, in 2018, she opened her first of three physiotherapy pessary clinics located in both Ontario and Saskatchewan. Toronto Pessary Clinic was established in response to an ever-increasing demand for timely access to knowledgeable, compassionate healthcare professionals trained to assess and fit pessaries for women seeking conservative management for conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
When she is not in clinic assisting women in their journeys to optimizing pelvic health, well-being, and function, she also enjoys assisting teaching for Pelvic Health Solutions, including introductory courses to pelvic health physiotherapy, as well as the Pessary Course, which she and her colleague, Jenny Telfer-Crum, created and offer across North America.
Most recently, Cara has joined the team at Cosm Medical as a clinical specialist, advising their engineering and research team on the development of personalized and novel pessary designs.
She finds the art of pessary fitting incredibly rewarding and is delighted to share with you her passion for this unique area of pelvic health physiotherapy.
